Mike King visits St Francis

Today we were very lucky in Tumu Hub to have Mike King, Atlanta Lolohea, Di Hiini and people from I Am Hope come to visit our Hub.

Mike read us a book called TR and Mack. It was about a girl named Charlie overthinking and then she met TR and Mack who helped her and she wanted to help other people and she saw a little boy and helped him and they went to the counselling together.

Some of the main messages were don’t compare yourselves to others and don’t tell your big secrets to your friends because if you are no longer friends they can tell other people.

Something I enjoyed the most was how they gave out a bunch of stuff for free because we had lots of fun going around the school waving our flags.

Something I will take away from his talk was everyone can be sad not just you, we all put our hands up for stuff like ¨put your hand up if you smile sometimes because you feel like you have to but your angry or sad underneath that smile¨  because a lot of people put their hand up and after people did that everybody knew that they were not alone.

Super Swimming

We have just finished two weeks of swimming lessons at Graham Condon.

The thing that I enjoyed the most this week was Diving because our coach let us pick what to do in the water. I did a bomb and then a dive because diving is my favorite thing to do in swimming lessons but I wanted to do a bomb as well.

This week, we did a lot of water safety skills. Something that I have learnt is if you can’t huddle all the way to the surface you need to go in line like a train and this is important because if you huddle all the way to the surface you can lose track of where you are going you I needed to know this in case this ever happens.

Something that I want to learn next time I have swimming lessons at school is river swim because I was very slow at doing it so I am trying to get faster.

Spelling W8T1

This week in Spelling I have been learning to add an ending to words.

I had to create a copy of a template (that Miss Carney created on Google drawing) and fill it in.

Something I found interesting was words can completely change by using endings.Something that I found challenging was trying to figure out if I was supposed to add or take off letters the word.

Here is a link to my slide with the links to the google drawings:

Reading Create Wk6T1

Last week for reading we had to create a book cover using a google drawing template. We created the front and back covers. The book cover needed to be something that I would want to read, and would pick off the shelf either at the library or the shops.

We also did some learning about what makes a good fit book for all of us in my reading group. We then create group ground rules to follow while we work in our reading group.

Below is a screenshot of my book cover.

This was a very fun activity because you could do this book cover about anything, I chose to make a criminal case that I made up about my friend Miriam if you would like to see what it looks like you can press on this picture

What I like about this book cover is that I would pick it up off a shelf and read it for myself. Would you?

Wonderful Woodend

Early Monday morning on the 13th of February, I jumped out of bed scared but excited to go to Woodend Christian Camp. Well in the car to school I thought, “what if I’m bringing this huge suitcase for nothing?” But when I hopped out of the car I saw Kayla with her huge suitcase as well so I didn’t feel as nervous. We walked into school. I said goodbye to my Dad and walked into school feeling exhilarated. On the bus me and charlie mae sat together jumping and and down. The walk to camp (no one liked) felt as long as the Nile and as hot as an oven. When we finished the walk, I screamed in excitement. And ran across the road. The first activity we did was orienteering. I did not like this because it made my legs very tired. Then we did Field and court Games. I played Gaga Dodgeball. It was so much fun. My Favorite activity was aero Jump because I did backflips and things I never knew I could do. When we got into our bunk room everyone picked there’s beds and got set up. I was on the bottom bunk and on top of me was Charlie Mae. My Favorite food we had there was breakfast. The smell of the crispy, crunchy toast and the surgery cereal wafted through the air. I ran to get my plate and lined up. I couldn’t wait. When I got to choose all I heard was ‘I want that one please’ ‘a little bit of that’ and lots of pouring of cereals. When I took my first all the flavors were melting on my tongue. The rice bubbles were popping in my mouth like fireworks. This was so good! Leaving camp was the worst part. I was so sad saying goodbye but happy to see my family when I got home. Have you ever been To Woodend Christian Camp?
